Microsoft explains what Edge version numbers mean

If you have been wondering about how Microsoft decided to change the Edge version numbers, Microsoft Edge Team today wrote a blogpost to explain  the same. As per the recently shared blogpost by Edge Team, the Edge version numbers change according to the MAJOR.BUILD schema.

 he Redmond giant explained with a blogpost that the team do not change the version number with every update. The Edge Team also made it clear that only the major and significant updates bring a new version number of Edge. Microsoft further explained that each version number indicates the Window Build number and users can check the changelogs to get the details of build version and the changes made in the recent build.

Skype users can now make voice and video calls on Edge without installing a plugin

Now, people who are using Skype on a web browser will be able to connect to their conversations faster than before on Skype for Web and Skype for Outlook.com. This is possible because of the latest ORTC APIs. The Skype Team published this update on Skype Blogs on September 18th.

According to the blog, the ORTC APIs enable the development of real-time audio and video communications applications on top of the Microsoft Edge browser, without the need to install any plugins. Thanks to this feature, Skype for Web and Skype for Outlook.com have become easier to use.
